• It's not a matter of if but when cracks will form in the concrete. Temperature changes and concrete shrinkage are a few situations where concrete may crack. Placing control joints is a finisher's way of determining where the concrete will crack and making sure it happens in a straight line instead of randomly. As a general rule, concrete control joints should be placed at 25% of the depth of the slab. An 8" concrete slab should have a groove depth of 2". Joints should also be spaced out properly at least 2-3 times the thickness of the concrete. An 8" slab should have control joints every 16-24 feet.
• GatorLoy Hand Groovers are made from Gator Tools proprietary alloy which keep the concrete surface open allowing the bleedwater to evaporate. This concrete tool allows the finisher to not only place control joints but also float the concrete "creme" to the surface for a smooth clean finish. These groovers exhibit all of the qualities you expect from both a float AND a groover. These groovers are harder and stronger, but lighter than bronze!
